Samuel was born in 1806 in Shocklach and his christening took place there on June 1st, 1806.1  Samuel's father was Robert Hopley and his mother was Margaret Richards.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Catherine Lewis; his maternal grandparents were Richard Richards and Anne Phythian. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Thomas, William, Anne, Margaret, Margaret and Jane.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 81 on April 18th, 1887 in Wrexham.  He was buried on April 22nd, 1887 in Penycae.2 3

‌Samuel and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on December 29th, 1840 in Ellesmere.4  They had a son and three daughters, named Robert, Margaret, Ann and Jane.  There are no more children.  Ann and Jane were twins.
