Robert was born in July 1791 in Shocklach and his baptism took place on July 31st, 1791 in Harthill.¹

Robert's father was Robert Hopley and his mother was Margaret Richards. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Catherine Lewis; his maternal grandparents were Richard Richards and Anne Phythian. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, William, Samuel, Anne, Margaret, Margaret and Jane. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 61 on March 21st, 1853 in Malpas. His burial was on March 26th, 1853 in Shocklach.²³

- In the administration of probate, it is clear that Robert is the brother of Thomas, the Brewer in Toxteth Park.
  
  In 1841, Robert Hopley (50) was at Handley Calvey Hall (7 miles North of Shocklach) with Ann (50) his wife or sister, and several other Hopleys. This was Robert Hopley-Dod
  
  In 1851, Robert (59) was a visitor of Thomas and Margaret Moyle at Ebnal, Malpas, He was "Proprietor of House".
