George was born on April 11th, 1810 in Harthill and his christening took place on September 30th, 1810 at All Saints, Harthill.1 2  George's father was William Brereton Jnr and his mother was Mary Tomlinson.  His paternal grandparents were William Brereton and Mary Ledsham; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Tomlinson and Phoebe Owens. He had three brothers named John, Thomas and William. He had an adopted sister named Phoebe. He had a half-brother named Samuel.  He died at the age of 83 in September 1893 in Birkenhead.3

‌George and Jane were married in a commitment ceremony on September 13th, 1831 in Shocklach.10  They were also married in a religious ceremony on November 3rd, 1831 in Shocklach by Curate C. W. W. Egton and witnessed by William Brereton & Margaret Hopley.11  They had seven sons and four daughters, named Richard, William, Robert, George, John, Charles, Thomas, Ann, Margaret, Mary and Jane.  There are no more children.
