Probate records show a George Brereton of White's Lane, Weston, near Crew died 21 June 1893, leaving £145 to his widow Hannah. This is another person!.
WARNING: Dont confuse with a George Brereton that died 6 Feb 1890. The headstone reveals he was the son of Abraham and Jane Brereton, aged 44.
General Notes
George is one of my 8 Great Great Great (4X) Grandfathers. George was born at Burwardsley (Farm), about one mile from Harthill.
When George and Jane were married, thier parents were witness to the marriage. George was of Harthill Parish, and Jane from Shocklach.
Acout 1848, George moved from Tilston to Cuddington Mill. Jane and Thomazs were born at Cuddington.
In 1850 George, Jane Brereton and family are living at Cuddington Mill, where son Thomas was born.
In 1851, George (41, a Miller and Farmer of 48 acres) and Jane (41) are at Cuddington Mill with the family; Richard (16), William (14), Robert (12), John (7), Charles (5), Jane (3) and Thomas (8mo). Ann Clutton (19) was their house servant.
In 1853, when George's son Richard married Esther Eddowes, George was a Publican.
In 1861, George and Jane (52 & 53) were farmers of 20 acres and employed one man.
About 1865, the family moved to Birkenhead, working as a Porter. His wife Jane died in Birkenhead in 1867 and in 1869 George re-married Martha Holt (widow, aged 48). He was 59 but put down 55 on his marriage record
In 1871, George, a porter, and Martha (56 & 48) were living at 8 Neptune Street, Birkenhead. Two of Marthas children (George's step-children) were with them.
In 1891, George was living with son Robert Brereton in Birkenhead.
After Jane died, George married Martha Holt, 12 years his junior. They were in Birkenhead in 1881.
Dont confuse with other George Breretons born about 1809 and 1815 who married Martha Hildich in 1859. Also his uncle Thomas had a son George, born 1811 (i.e. cousin).
Ann recorded George as born in 1806, so it is possible we have the wrong George, but unlikely as good links with son and family.
Unlike older brothers John and Thomas, William and George did not make a Will.

Two Richard Breretons were born about 1833-5. The one who married Esther, was the son of George Brereton.
I believe Houghton and Orton are both meant to be Horton. Horton Green is the next village south of Tilston, so most probably Horton is the area surrounding Horton Green. Therefore his birth place was probably on a farm part of Horton Hall, near Horton Green and Tilston, where his father George is recorded in the 1833 Poll Book..
One possible christening record is indexed, which probably is the correct record as it specifies "Tilston by Malpas", but has his father as Richard (not George). There isnt a record for George as the father, so perhaps this is a transcription error (as christened Richard), or simply his record isnt indexed.

Richard son of Richard & Jane Brereton of Horton, Farmer.
I did have his birth as 28-Sep-1833, but nothing to support this and census and death ages are of little help. However, he was a year older than Esther on the marriage certificate and 1961 census record.

In his later years, Richard probably suffered from dementure. He would bring home rubbish and occasionally threaten his wife Esther, who must have been terrified, athough from newspaper clips we know Esther was a tough old girl !

Death Cert: Richard Brereton died 8 June 1904, at 11 Chaple Street, Birkenhead (i.e. the Bird in Hand), aged 69 years, a retired Licensed Victular. The cause of death was "Cerebral Apoplexy, 4 months". Annie Hale, daughter was present at the death.
Richard was buried on the 13th June, and the headstone shows he died 8th June.
Richard (aged 71) and Esther (aged 84) are buried in the same grave as Esther's youngest brother, Mathew Eddowes who died at the early age of 29. Three infants, Ethel Brereton, Henry Hale and William Brereton, are also buried with them. Grave number 481 in the CoE section 2.
