    Burial confirms John was 69y old.  He was buried with his wife Elizabeth, aged 84 and his mother Mary (wife of William Brereton), aged 65.
    
    Probate: 27 April. Effects under £1,500.
    John Brereton late of Bolesworth Hill in the Township of Broxton in the Parish of Malpas in the County of Chester Farmer who died 29 September 1870 as Bolesworth Hill was proved at Chester by John Brereton of Harthill Village in the said County Farmer and Thomas Brereton of Bolesworth Hill Farmer the Sons the Executors.
    
    (Will is available as PDF). The estate is left to his four named children: John, Thomas, Elizabeth and Ann. However, john had £450 deducted as having already recieved that inheritance during his fathers lifetime.

• General Notes
  • In 1831, John was a butcher.  Later, John was a farmer of 124 acres, and an employer of 2 labourers.  He lived with his wife's parents throughout his married life.
    
    In 1841, John and Elizabeth (both 35) were with Elizabeth's parents William and Ann Boote.  Their three surviving children John, Thos and William (5, 2 and 1mo) were also with them.
    
    In 1851, John (47), Elizabeth (46) and family, including Ann (2) were living with John's parents William and Ann Boote
    
    According to their headstone (and John's will), John and Elizabeth lived at Bolesworth Hill, Broxton (as tenant farmers).  John must have been very sucessful, leaving an estate valued at under £1,500 (in 1870).
