Emigrated to Dalton City in the USA

In the fall of 1869 Joseph Stocks made a trip to England by way of California, stopping to see his brother George who lived south of Decatur.

The Biography of Job W Stocks describes George's parents as Benjamin and Mery, but this must be a mistake as the christening records (and other family records) show his mother as Sarah Campinot.

George Stocks was educated in the schools of England and as a young man, came to the New World, thinking to have better opportunities and find better privileges on this side of the Atlantic.  While making the voyage to this new world he met the lady whom he afterward married, the wedding ceremony being performed a short time after their arrival in the United States.  Both the Stocks and Epworth families went on to Ohio, where they made their first settlement in the southern part of the state, probably in Vinton county near the Ross county line.  George Stocks worked at odd jobs for a time and later became connected with the railway interests, becoming a practical civil engineer.  In England he was associated with old Jimmy Griffiths, prominent in English history, Mr. Stocks acting as one of his assistants.  For some time he worked as a civil engineer in railroad construction here but afterward purchased a farm in Vinton county, Ohio, clearing the land and preparing it for plow (plough).  He remained upon that place for about nine years and then sold the property, after which he came to Illinois.  In this state he first rented a farm of Robert Patterson, about six miles south of Decatur and near the village of Elwin.  He was there for six yeas after which he purchased a farm in Moultrie county and about a year later took up his abode at that place.  This has since been known as the old Stocks homestead and the father resided thereon until his death.

In August 1891, George W Stocks of Lake City returned to England in Ill Health.  When he arrived in the port of Liverpool he could hardly walk. A news clip reports that he wrote to his Decatur friends that he had improved greatly and planned to visit Scotland, and may not return home until the early winter.

George died in Illinois a year later in Jan 1893.

Benjamin F. was a teacher, superintendent, and prominent lawyer in Garden City, KS.  He died and is buried at Kansas City. 1856 - 1926 James C Stocks 70 70 James C. was Collector and Supervisor in Moultrie Co, IL. 1858 - 1913 Mary E Stocks 55 55  Mary E. married a prominent farmer in Lovington.  William Wilt 1861 - 1937 Carrie Alice Walters 76 76 1853 - 1908 Joseph R Stocks 54 54 Natalie has Joseph's middle initial as R, but his name is believed to be Homer 1856 - 1940 Minnie Ellen Foulk 84 84 Minnie's parents are believed to be Samual W Foulk (1826-1921) and Eliza Jane Minich (1827-1900).

Minnie's grandparents are believed to be George Foulk (b. 22-May-1787, d. 30-Aug-1872) and Mary Lutman (b. 16-Feb-1791, d 20-Feb-1878). 1862 - 1925 Silas Dean Stocks 63 63 Silas's first wife was the sister of Mrs Monroe, wife of Thomas Monroe or Missouri.  His first wife died in Mexico, MO.  He had one surviving son Harry by his secoind wife, Laura.
