Sarah was born in March 1852 in Huddersfield.1  Sarah's father was Thomas Stocks and her mother was Hannah Batty.  Her paternal grandparents were David Stocks and Margaret Goldthorp. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Rhodes, Fred, David, Mary and Hannah.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 72 in April 1924 in Huddersfield.2
