Joseph was born in 1758 in Sowerby and his baptism took place there on November 5th, 1758.¹

Joseph's father was Joseph Stocks and his mother was Sara Wilkinson. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, David, Betty and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 85 in 1843 in Lockwood.  He was buried on June 4th, 1843 in Lockwood.^2 2
