Husband James wasn't there. Named After: Eunice was named after her grandmother Eunice Blackely Named After: Rosey was named after her fathers stster Rosy Mather (who died before he was born).
There must be another Rose out there ! Work with: Two James Mathers, both musicians, and both with connections to Manchester. Lives with: In 1861 and 1871, William was living with his brother Henry, both labourers at Salford. Lives with: In 1861, Henry Mather (63, Widow, Dyer) was sharing a house with George Seddon Representative of: Robert and Richard are probably brothers, as both from Worsley
In 1818, Robert was witness to brother Richards marriage to Elizabeth Taylor. Representative of: In 1815, Sarah Mather was witness to Frances's marriage Associate with: John is a possible son of Joseph, as they are the only teo Mathers buried at All Saints, Bolton Lives with: In 1861, George Mather (17 and "Brother" was living with James Seddon (his Brother-in-law) Lives with: In 1861, Mary Ann (niece) was living with James Seddon Lives with: In 1861, John (nephew) was living with James Seddon Neighbor: Two Mather families from Rooden Lane, Prestwich Know each other: Both James and Willaim were born in Tabley and came to Salford, Manchester.
They are probably related, maybe brothers. Lives with: In 1871, James was living with his son-in-law Frederick Barlow at Prestwich Relative of: Martha Mather is the daughter of James Mather, a younger brother of Thomas, so Martha is Thomas's niece.
Therefore, Martha Mather married her cousin Jeffrey Mather. Lives with: Assumed brothers living together in 1841 with father Joseph Named After 1813 Ellin Mather Unconfirmed Daughter.

This Ellin is from Eccles, so may not be of the same family.  However, her parents are Alice Mather and Samuel Mather, and there are no other siblings from Eccles, so there are no conflicting siblings.  Also, "Ellin" does match her great grandparent Ellen Howarth.  There is also an obvious gap in the birth records so another birth in 1813 fits perfectly with a birth every three years.
1783 Alice Owen Alice's husband Samuel died in 1813, aged 31 and two years later, Alice had a bastard daughter Alice.  Did Alice then remarry (about 1814-1820)?  The Alice Mather of Eccles that married Richard Rider in 1817 was 25 (not 35). The Alice that married Richard Grundy in 1814 was even younger.  However, the Alice that married James Smith in 1818 is a perfect fit. 1813 Alice Mather 1819 - ~1819 Alice Mather 1837 - 1837 John Mather 2m 2m Died aged 7 wks, so born in late Sept 1837.  Birth registered in Bolton naming mother as STOCKTON. 1825 - 1887 Maria Mather 62 62 Unconfirmed Daughter.

The marriage record of 1846 shows Maria's father was Samuel, a Weaver from Turton.  Is this the same Samuel Mather, because (Maria was missing on the 1841 census)?  Samuel's sister was Maria, so may well have named a daughter after his closest sister.

There was a Maria, baptised 8-Jan-1926 in Ringley, daughter of Samuel Mather and Margaret from Kersley, so this is her (Francis and Eunice also baptised there), and Maria was a minor when she married 6-Feb-1846.
1825 - 1892 John Hamer 67 67 ~1800 James Hamer ~1801 Elena Haslam 1847 James Hamer 1850 William Hamer 1859 John Hamer 1860 Mary Ann Hamer 1855 Selina Hamer 1857 Martha Maria Hamer 1863 Sarah A Hamer 1865 Eliza Ellen Hamer 1847 - 1848 Eli Hamer 1 1 1852 - 1853 Mary Ann Hamer 1 1 1779 Samuel Mather From 1812 to 1826 Samuel and Margaret had Rosey buried and Frances, Unice and Maria, all baptised at Ringley and abode Kearsley.

In 1841, Samuel (60) was with Unice i.e. Eunice (22), Martha (18) and Maria (15), at Riley Row, Kersley.

Samuel may have had a brother Thomas (1874-1860) who had a daughter Frances Mather (b.1816, Manchester)
~1776 Margaret Dawson 1816 - 1891 Eunice Mather 75 75 Poor old Eunice was an Imbicile (1881) and lived in an institution (1851 and 1871).  She never married.

Eunice died in March 1891 at the Workhouse and is bured at St. James, New Bury.
1822 Martha Mather ~1822 Robert Halliday Fatrher John Halliday, a weaver 1813 Francis Mather 5 Jan 1846, Francis Mather, waever of Kearsley, son of Samuel Mather a weaver married Mary Allen, (Full, Widower), daughter of William Urnison.

In 1851, Francis and Mary Mather (39 & 51) were at Kersley with Ann Allen (24), Mary Allen (11) and granddaughter Mary A Allen (10 months).
1812 - 1812 Rosamond Mather 1810 - 1814 Maria Mather 4 4 1816 Alice Mather 1813 - >1861 James Mather 48 48 Did James lead a double life?

7 Aug 1837, James (24), bachelor and spinner, son of Samuel Mather a weaver married Margaret daughter of Joseph Slater (21), both of Kearsley.  Could this be the James with Lomas Mather in 1841?

From GRO records, t seems James and Margaret had no children.  The Mather+Slater births for John in 1847 & Sarah Hannah 1849 are for Job Mather and Elizabeth Slater. Both their children died.   Joseph Stockton was a witness.  However, they did have children, but the MMN is STCOKTON, not SLATER.

Although married to Margaret with a son Henry (6mo), he was not with them in 1841. Instead James was working nearby at Culcheth, Leigh as a farm servant.  Margaret (20) was at Janes Square, Leigh with her son Henry (6 months) and her mother Ann Stockton (65).

In 1851, James and Margaret (38 & 31) were in Ancoats, Manchester with Henry (10), Joseph (6) and Elizabeth A (3)

Around 1855, James and Margaret appear to have seperated.

In 1861, James Mather (47) and the four children (but not Elizabeth) were living in Sharples.

In 1871, Margaret Mather (Mar, 51) with Elizabeth Alice (22) and James (19) were "boarding" with he older son Henry and his family.  Husband James wasn't there.

In 1877, Another James Mather (son of Ellis and Jane) died at 32 Chapel Street, Blackburn aged 63 (so same age).  Probate shows his wife was also Margaret.  He was a Grocer.  He and his wife Margaret (56 & 54) and daughter Jane (17) were in Blackburn in 1871, so this must be another family.
1819 Margaret Stockton (Slater) Parents Joseph and Ann Stockton (aka Slater), using Margaret Slater when she married, aged 21 a spinster.

In 1841, Margeret (20) was with her Mother Ann Stockton (65) and son Henry Mather (6 mo) at Jane Square, Leigh.

All the childrens birth records, record the mother's maiden name as STOCKTON, although the marriage is SLATER.

In 1871, Margaret Mather (Mar, 51) with Elizabeth Alice (22) and James (19) were "boarding" with her older son Henry and his family.  Husband James wasn't there.
1741 - 1815 John Mather 74 74 John would be about 30 when he married Eunice, a widower.  Therfore John may have been a widow too. ~1740 - 1809 Eunice Ashton 69 69 16 March 1759, Eunice Ashton married Edward Blakely at Prestwich

16 May 1769, John Mather & Eunice Blackley, both of Outwood married at Prestwich
1772 Thomas Mather 1771 - 1776 Rosy Mather 5 5 1813 - 1857 James Mather 44 44 Who was this James that died in 1857 in W Bolton, aged 44?  It cant be the James b.1813 who married Margaret Stockton (aka Slater) as he was still alve, living in Sharples in 1861.  He must be the daughter of James and Sarah (or illigitimate son of Ann Mather).

~1750 Hannah Dale 1781 Sarah Mather In 1815, Sarah Mather was still single when she was witness to her sister Frances's marriage.

From 1815 to 1825 there are several marriages of Sarah Mather at Manchester, but not are obvious (a spinster and signature)!
1784 Frances Mather 17 Aug 1815, Frances Mather married George Robinson, a linen draper, at Manchester Cathederal by licence.  Her sister Sarah was witness. 1785 Martha Mather 1790 Joseph Mather In 1808 Joseph was a Joiner of Manchester when he married Margaret.  He was described as a loom maker in 1814 when Ann was born.
1770 - 1853 Ellis (Elias) Mather 83 83 Ellis and Alice were from Barton (upon Irwell) untill 1796, then Winton.  Probable brother James Mather of Barton had a son Ellis buried at Eccles 1 Jan 1794.

10 Apr 1792, Ellis, married to Alice was from Winton.  There is another Ellis, possibly his father, married to Rachel from Worsley (they had Ann in 1771)

His first wife Ann may have died.  There is another marriage:  7 Apr 1783, Elias Mather married Ann Thornley at Eccles.
1771 - 1835 Alice Eccles 64 64 1807 Ann Mather 1805 James Mather 1803 Alice Mather 12 May 1845, Alice Mather, daughter of Elias Mather, publican married Robert Boardman, mechanic at St John's, Manchester. This may be the other Alice, daughter of Elias. 1801 - ~1802 Alice Mather 1 1 1792 - ~1792 Robert Mather 1799 Elias Mather 1796 - 1802 Ann Mather 6 6 1797 - 1820 Sarah Mather 23 23 ~1720 John Mather John's father was also John, as he is refered to as John Jn'r.  His father probably died about 1765, when after ther he is refered at as Mr Johhn Mather (and no longer jnr) Mary Possibly Mary Duxbury, married at Bolton 23 June 1743 1745 Hannah Mather 1748 Samuel Mather 1752 Benjamin Mather 1759 Elizabeth Mather 1761 Richard Mather 1763 Joseph Mather 1768 Elizabeth Mather 1769 Elizabeth Mather 1811 William Tattersall In 1841, William (30), Ann (35) and family were at Back Bradshaw Street, E Bolton.  William was a book keeper (a Painter when Ralph baptised).  They had William (11), Ralph (9), Lawrence (5), James (3) and Joseph (1) 1836 - 1897 Lawrence Tattersall 61 61 Lawrence is the Great Grandfather of Sheryl Anne Fry (from Brisbane, Queensland), a High 17.7 cM DNA match to me (Fry Family Tree).

There was another Lawrence, born 30 Jan 1835, son of Thomas and Ann from Bridge End, Haslingden, a Fuller.

Lawrence emigrated to Aukland, N.Z. where he married twice and had 16 children.
1830 - 1897 William Tattersall 67 67 1832 - 1864 Ralph Tattersall 31 31 Ralph was 28 when in July 1855 he emigrated to NZ (alone) on the "Gazelle" sailing to Aukland via Victoria, Australia. 1834 - 1835 Lawrence Tattersall 1 1 1831 Lawrence Tattersall This Lawrence may be of another family.  There is no death record, yet another Lawrence was born 1834. Also insufficient time between other births for Lawrence to pop out in 1831. 1838 - 1914 James Tattersall 76 76 1840 - 1867 Joseph Tattersall 27 27 1843 - 1904 Elizabeth Ann Tattersall 61 61 Elizabeh Ann was born at sea.

She married an old James Young (1819-1895), 24 years her senior (or was that her father?). They are buried together in Aukland NZ.
1916 - 2007 Margaret Joan Mather 91 91 Margaret J Mather was born at Chorlton, Manchester.

In 1856, James (38) married Ann Dickinson (22).  James was a musician, the son of Ralph Mather, a Private in the 23rd Foot Regiment. James and Ann were living at Hollingwood. Although James was a musician, he couldn't sign his name!

In 1857, James's son James was born in Ashtion-Under-Lyne

1836 Ann Dickinson Ann was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Dickinson from Leigh, though Ann was born in Northwich.  The family were Silk Weavers

In 1856, Ann Married a much older James Mather.  Ann recorded her age as 22, but was probably under age.  James was 38

In 1871, Ann Mather (35, W, born Northwich) was with her three children James (14), Thomas (12 and Ellen (1).
