Joseph's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Catherine Wise. His paternal grandparents were Timothy Mather and Elizabeth Atherton. He had two brothers named Timothy and Samuel. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 63 on September 30th, 1749 in Connecticut (CT).¹
