Jane was born in December 1839 in Lowton and her baptism took place on December 8th, 1839 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1 2  Jane's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Ann Eckersley. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, Betty, Ann and Martha.  She was the youngest of the six children.  She died after 1841.
