Margaret was born in 1598 in Lancashire. Margaret's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Margaret (Margerite) Abrams.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Margaret. She had a brother and a sister, named Richard and Ellin.  She was the youngest of the three known children.
