William was born on June 4th, 1853 in Marlow (aka Marley) and his baptism took place on August 14th, 1853 at All Saints (Bingley).1 2  William's father was Henry Smith and his mother was Sarah Amy Pickles.  His paternal grandparents were William Smith and Jenny (Jane) Hudson; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Roberts. He had three sisters named Mary, Jane and Anne.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 55 on July 12th, 1908 in Keighley.  He was buried in July 1908 in Bingley.3 4

‌William and Lucy were married in a religious ceremony in September 1876 in Keighley.4  They had five biological sons and two biological daughters, named Harry, Arthur, Percy, Ernest, Joseph, Hannah and Ethel.  They also had an adopted son named Hartley.  There are no more children.
