Believed to be the daughter of Samuel Mather, who was living with her mother about the time she was concieved. Also, the 1920 birth of Miles, shows the mother's maiden name as Mather.

3 Oct 1903 Mary Ellen married Thomas Standish at Delph Hill Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Bolton. She recorded her father as Thomas Pennington, Cotton Warper, but he had died a few years before she was born, and the birth record does not name the father.
