Richard was born in May 1770 in Beeston and his baptism took place on May 20th, 1770 at St. Boniface (Bunbury).1 2  Richard's father was William Brereton and his mother was Mary Ledsham.  His paternal grandparents were Sandford Brereton and Elizabeth Dale; his maternal grandparents were Richard Ledsham and Ann Lucas. He had seven brothers and a sister, named William, George, Thomas, John, James, Samuel, Abraham and Mary.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 89 on January 2nd, 1860 in the Wirral.  He was buried on January 7th, 1860 at All Saints, Harthill.3 4

‌Richard and Betty were married in a religious ceremony on August 9th, 1793 in Leyland.9  They had eight sons and five daughters, named William, Richard, Richard, John, John, Abraham, George, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah and Kitty.  There are no more children.
