Richard was born on May 20th, 1770 in Beeston and his baptism took place on May 20th, 1770 in Malpas.1 2  Richard's father was William Brereton and his mother was Mary Ledsham.  His paternal grandparents were Sandford Brereton and Elizabeth Dale; his maternal grandparents were Richard Ledsham and Ann Lucas. He had seven brothers and a sister, named William, George, Thomas, John, James, Samuel, Abraham and Mary.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 89 on January 2nd, 1860 in the Wirral.  His burial was on January 7th, 1860 at All Saints, Harthill.3 4
