Richard was born about 1252 in Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, England.  Richard's father was Prince Richard Plantagenet of England and his mother was Countess Sancha of Provence.  His paternal grandparents were King John ("Lackland") I of England and Queen Isabella Taillefer of Angouleme; his maternal grandparents were Raymond Berenger V (IV) and Beatrice de Savoie.  He was an only child.  He died  due to killed in battle on March 28th, 1296 in Berwick, Northumberland, England.  He was buried in Hayle, St. Erth, Cornwall, England.

‌Richard and Joan were married in a religious ceremony about 1279 in Cornwall, Cornwall, England.  They had two sons named Edmund and Geoffrey.
