1810 - 1867 Jane Hopley 57 57 Jane is one of my 8 Great Great Great (4X) Grandmothers.

1 Apr 1810, "Jane, daughter of Robert Hopley and Margaret his wife" was baptised

In 1831 when George and Jane were married, thier parents were witness to the marriage. George was of Harthill Parish, and Jane from Shocklach.

Jane inhereted a large sum of money and a farmhouse from her uncle Richard Richards in 1858.  Richard also had the Fish Inn, Shocklach before he retired, and possibly Jane and George took it over in the 1850s.

Jane Hopley and George had a nephew Edward Brereton, who married Frances Hopley from Broxton.
1764 - 1847 Robert Hopley 83 83 Thomas (his father) left Robert (butcher) of Shocklach Oviat £50 in his Will of 1798, but most other children only 1s.

Robert's wife Margaret died in 1814 when Robert was about 50. They were living at Worthenbury.  He does not appear to have remarried.

James (brother) left him £120 when he died in 1842.

I cant find a Will for Robert Hopley, although most of his brothers seem to mave made one.
1808 - 1898 Margaret Hopley 89 89 Another Margaret Holpey (same age) died in Tilston in 1889, aged 81y, but she was born in Threapwood, Flintshire, the wife of Peter Hopley.

Margret maried a wealthy Thomas Moyal of Hampton in 1835, with a society wedding at Chester.  Hampton Hall is a lage mansion just outside Malpas.  Their son Richard had a large store in Bolton.
1806 - 1887 Samuel Hopley 81 81 Moved to Ellesmere, Shropshire after married, working as an Ag Labourer (1841 and 1851) and farmer (1861).

Between 1861 and 1871, the family moved to Ruabon, Denbighshire.
1818 - 1898 Mary Williams 80 80 Mary's father was William Williams 1792 Anne Hopley Daughter Ann (of Broxton parish) married John Hough (of Coddington parish) in Broxton, Malpas.

In 1841, Ann (50) and John (55, farmer) were farming at Stapeley, Wybunbury (possibly the wrong family).
1789 - 1862 Robert Dod- Hopley 73 73 Robert Hopley Dod (or DODD)

In 1841, Robert, Ann and family are at "Calvey Hall" (probably Calveley Hall).  This is at Milton Green, 1 Km north of Handley.  Handley is adjacent on the 1841 census return.

Robert must be a sucessful farmer, as they have 6 children and 5 servants.

In 1861, Robert and Ann (74 & 72) were in Lancashire with John (46), Ann (40), Elizabeth (36) and Amelia (28) and three of Randle's children.

Robert Hopley Dodd died at Upholland in Q1 1862, aged 82.
1770 - 1814 Margaret Richards 43 43 Margaret is one of my 16 Great Great Great Great (5X) Grandmothers.

In 1831, Margaret was witness at Janes marriage..

In 1814, Margaret Hopley died, aged only 43.
1786 John Hough 1802 - 1883 William Hopley 81 81 William (labourer) may have married Mary Siddon at St Oswolds (both of this parish) on 5 March 1821.  However, it is more likely he married Mary Manley at Shocklach on 10 Sep 1827.

In 1841, William Hopley (40, labourer) was at Sealand, Hawerden, Flintshire

In 1851 he was a Ag Labourer, 50, married, at Lower Berse, Bersham, Denbighshire (wife not present). He is also in the Poll Book for Shocklach Oviatt, having a cottage and garden.

In 1861, William, a labourer, and Mary (both 60) were at Shocklach Ovait with son Samuel (7) and grandson John (12)

Although just a labourer he seems to have done well and amassed £953, a good sum to bequeth to his various family members (see his Will of 1883).  John Hopley of Hitchens farm (and Ashlea House) and Thomas Nickson Jnr, both farmers of Shoclach were his executors, and inherited his personal effects, household goods and livestock.  As well as his cash and market garden with croft, William also had investments in stocks and securities.
1809 - 1885 Thomas Moyle 76 76 Thomas's mother was Margaret.  She was with him in 1851.

Described as a "Retired Farmer" in 1861 (aged 52) and a "Small Farmer" in 1871 (aged 62).

In 1881, Thomas and Margaret were ? and 72.

Thomas was from Hampton, Malpas.  This is where his grandfather Richard Richards died in 1858.  More likely he was from Ebnal, Hampton, Malpas (1851 census), and not the big hall.

Thomas left £350, £350 and £380 to John, Richard and Margaret which must have been a great boot to Richard in setting up his business in Bolton.
1849 Anne Moyle Anne (or Annie) was with her mother Margaret Moyle (nee Hopley) in Whitchurch in 1891.

Edward died, and Annie was Widowed at only 33
1836 - 1903 John Moyle 66 66 John and Emma had 10 children, Margaret the oldest was a spinster. 1845 - 1916 Richard Moyle 71 71 Richard was a very sucessful Draper, who expanded to run a Mantle and Millinery family business in Bolton, and a significant employer of the area.

After Fanny died, Richard married a youthfull Julia, one of his employees who (was living with the family in 1881) from Somerset.
1793 - 1859 Thomas Hopley 66 66 Thomas (widow in 1810) was left £10 by his grandmother Catherine. This is probably Thomas (b.1781) son of Thomas and Ann.

In 1841, Thomas (47) was an Ag. Labourer with wife Rebecca (37), Thomas (7), Elizabeth (12), Margaret (7), Randall (3) and Samuel (1).  They were at Carden (between Clutton, Broxton and Tilston).

In 1851, Thomas (55), Rebecca (42), Margaret (14), Randall (11), Samuel (9) and Mary (1) were at Barn Hill, Broxton.  There was another Thomas Hopley, born Shocklach working in Liverpool.

Robert was a joiner and worked with George Williams in 1861 and Charles Williams in 1871, possibly his uncles.

1878-1879 Robert and Jane lived at Holy Cottage, Lower Trevor (when the first two children were buried).

Robert of Fernleigh, King-St, Cefn Mawr, Ruabon died 6 Feb 1923, leaving his estate (£2307) to his two spinster daughters Clara Jane and Mary Edith.

In 1861, Recorded as "Son" of William and Mary, aged 7, but possibly a grandson (or adopted son) as parents William and Mary Hopley are 61 and 60. However they did have a grandson John (12, Servant)

In 1881, Samuel (26, Ag Lab) is at Hawarden, married to Jane (22) and has daughters Sarah and Mary (3 & 1)

NOTE: There is a John and Mary Hopley family from Little Budworth. They had Ann (Aug-1846 & Dec-1847), James (1852), John (1854) and Samuel (1855).
1848 John Hopley John cannot be the son of William (as too young to be his father), but instead, an illegitimate child of Mary Hopley.

John, a Grandchild (12), was a servant for William and Mary in 1861.  John (2) was with grandmother Mary while William was working away in 1851.

John Hopley was an illegitimate son of William's daughter Mary Caldercott, and was left £50 by William in 1883.
1830 Mary Hopley NOTE: There are two William Tushington & Mary families.  (This) Mary Hopley married 1853 and (another) Mary Wilson married 1858.

In 1861, Mary was "Married but seperated", and looking after three sons Samuel (7), James (4) and Thomas (2).  However, she was also recorded at Great Broughton with William (27) Thomas (1) and Mary Ann (0).

Mary Caldercott was left £60 as Thomas had already given her  £25, so Mary was left £85 in total.
Richard Caldercott 1828 - 1871 Jane Hopley 42 42 According to her fathers will, Jane had four children choldren, Mary, Anne, Edward and George Thomas Jackson whom were left £50 each.  Jane was already deceased when her father wrote his will.

Burial records suggest that Jane and Robert also had a son and two daughters that died as infants: Sarah (died 5 Jan 1854, 10mo) and Martha (died 5 Jan 1869, 10 mo) and Joseph (died 27 Jan 1871, 10mo).  All died in January, 10 months.
1837 Ann Hopley 1839 Martha Hopley Matha was left £160 by her father William Hopley.

According to the will of her father, Martha must have married a Hughes, she had a son Thomas and daughters Mary and Sarah Jane.  Mary was left £150.  Sarah Jane was left £75.  Thomas only got £35.  Martha and daughter Mary were also left the cottage garden and croft.

Sarah Hopley, 24, daugter of William Hopley married George Dunning (a Clerk, son of a publican) in Birkenhead 16 Jan 1860.  In 1861 she had a 4mo old daughter, Lucy.

The 1861 census confirms Sarah is from Shocklach  George died in 1866 and Sarah married Hugh Kerr in 1868.  She is still in Chester in 1871 and then there are no more records.
1861 - 1934 Julia Browne 73 73 Although Richard (35) was married to Fanny (36) in 1881, Richard already had an eye on Julia Brown who was living with them (age 21).  Well was was selling his millinery! 1844 - 1883 Fanny Hilliard Harris 39 39 Fanny's mother was Mary Ann Harris (70), who was living with Moyle family in 1881.   1836 - >1901 Emma Faulkner 65 65 1841 - 1882 Edward Richardson 41 41 Edward, son of Richard (also a farmer), was 8y older then Anne (or Annie) and a widower from Alpraham, Bunbury when he married her in 1869.  Anne was only 20. 1873 Thomas Richardson Thomas was only 9 when his father died.  He may have gone to live with his grandparents, as his mother Annie and sister Minnie were with Annies mother in 1891. 1874 Minnie Richardson 1791 - 1853 Robert Hopley 61 61 In the administration of probate, it is clear that Robert is the brother of Thomas, the Brewer in Toxteth Park.

In 1841, Robert Hopley (50) was at Handley Calvey Hall (7 miles North of Shocklach) with Ann (50) his wife or sister, and several other Hopleys. This was Robert Hopley-Dod

In 1851, Robert (59) was a visitor of Thomas and Margaret Moyle at Ebnal, Malpas, He was "Proprietor of House".

Robert, a gentleman's servant, died at Ebnal in 1853

Samuel knew Thomas (a brewer) and Robert Hopley, as swore an oath declaring Thomas a legal brother or Robert Hopley for probate. Robert was not his servant.  Robert was described as a "House Proprietor" in 1851, so may have been the proprietor of his Inn. Hampton had the Wheatsheaf and New Inn
1791 Joseph Arnold Joseph Arnold, a provision dealer, was living at 91 St Ann St (St Oswalds), Chester with his wife Sarah in 1851.  They had 4 children and Emma and Louisa Jane Kirkton (visitors) staying with them.

Jane Davies 1840 Joseph Hughes 1868 Thomas Hughes Thomas got £35 from his grandfather William Hopley's will. 1866 Mary Hughes Mary wasn't daft!  She looked after her grandfather after his wife had died, and was living there in 1881.  As well as the house, there was a market garden and croft that would require looking after.

Mary got £150 from her grandfather William Hopley's Will, and a shard the market garden and croft with her mother (but she was deceased), so she got it all.
1872 Sarah Jane Hughes Sarah Jane got £75 from her grandfather William Hopley's will. 1857 - 1863 Thomas Jackson 6 6 Not listed in William Hopley's will so may have died an infant. 1834 - 1905 William Tushingham 71 71 In 1851, William was still single with his parents Daniel and Ann (Anne on baptism)

William may have been a dodgy character.  He was in court in 1848, but acquitted. Later his census returns were inaccurate and he also separated from Mary.

In 1861, William (27, Joiner Journeyman) was seperated from Mary (as shown on Mary's census), although he recorded Mary with him, she was elsewhere with Samuel James and Thomas. Thomas was also recorded on 2 census returns.

In 1871, W Tushingham (37, Joiner, unemployed) is with a new young wife Ellen (24), although son and dau Thomas (11) and Mary A (10) are still with him.

1848 Elizabeth Hopley 1851 - 1853 Mary Hopley 2 2 MMN of birth unconfirmed (cant find), so this may be another's child, although Mary Hopley of correct parents died aged 2. 1858 Jane Ann Jones 1877 Sarah Hopley 1879 - 1945 Thomas Roberts 66 66 Thomas was noty the son of John (a farmer) and Elizabeth A, born near Dolgelly, N Wales in 1981. The 1901 record is a better match of age, and he is at the Victoria Barracks in Berkshire.,

In 1904, Gwendolines birth was registeed at Chester, and then the family moved to Minera, Wrexham where JT's birth was registered and where they were in 1911.

In 1911, Thomas (Colliery Timberman) and Sarah (31 & 30) had been married 7 years.  They had Gwendoline (6, born Barrow, Cheshire) and John Thomas Roberts (3, born Brymbo).  Another child had died.

In 1939, Another Thomas (Colliery Repaireman, Incapacitated, born 1878) and Sarah A (born 7 Nov 1780) were at Trevor, near Ruabon. This can't be the same Sarah.
1904 - 1951 Gwendoline Roberts 46 46 A child of Kathleen has a 7cM DNA match to me suggesting it is likely Kathleen Dutton and Cope are the same person and is her daughter. Kathleen Cope and Seymore were adopted.

I also have a 13 cM match to Carl Rogers who has Gwendoline in his tree.
1908 - 1981 John Thomas Roberts 73 73 1880 Mary Hopley In 1901, Mary may have married Thomas Henry Fowles (1871-1952) or Thomas Jones at Wrexham. 1855 Samuel Johnson 1912 - 1969 John Dutton 57 57 1914 - 1994 Dilys Williams 80 80 1938 - >2019 Kathleen Dutton (Cope) 81 81 NOTE: The 7cm DNA connection to redcrime14 (also 9cM to CKD) is unconfirmed (as Samuel Hopley b.1854 is unlikely to be the son or grandson of William and Mary)

Kathleen and Seymore Dutton were twins.  Their birth was registered Q2/1938 at Crew.  There was also a Charles Dutton registered Q3/1938 at Chester (where the two earlier births were registered).

Kathleen Cope was adopted and never knew who her mother was.  Kathleen is a 4th cousin 1x removed. One of her sons has a DNA match to CKD (9cM) and myself (7cM).  It also appears her twin brother Seymour was adopted by the Cope family.
