Richard's father was Thomas Moyle and his mother was Margaret Hopley. His maternal grandparents were Robert Hopley and Margaret Richards. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Anne. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 71 on October 8th, 1916 in Birkdale.3

Richard was a very sucessful Draper, who expanded to run a Mantle and Millinery family business in Bolton, and a significant employer of the area.
After Fanny died, Richard married a youthfull Julia, one of his employees who (was living with the family in 1881) from Somerset.
