Sarah Mather

Sarah was born in January 1805 in Breightmet and her baptism took place on January 27th, 1805 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹²

Sarah's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann Brabin. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Thornley. She had three brothers and nine sisters, named James, Thomas, Martha, Betty, Alice, Hannah, Mary, Margaret, Mary, Ellen, Mary and Jane. She died at the age of 54 in April 1859 in Middleton. Her burial was on April 22nd, 1859 at Christ Church, Ainsworth.³

  Sarah and James Clough (a counter point weaver) were at Roscoe Fold, Breightmet in 1841 with John (10), James (8), Richard (6) and Ann (4). James's (assumed) parents (John and Susan, both 60) were neighbours.
  
  They were there in 1851 and by 1861, their daughter Ann (24) was head of house with younger brother Samuel (17, a coal miner).
  
  The 1851 census confirms that this Sarah was born Breightmet, 1805.
