Alice was born in June 1798 in Darcy Lever and her christening took place on June 24th, 1798 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Alice's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann Brabin.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Thornley. She had three brothers and nine sisters, named James, Thomas, Martha, Betty, Hannah, Mary, Sarah, Margaret, Mary, Ellen, Mary and Jane.  She died at the age of 33 in January 1832 in Breightmet.  She was buried on January 3rd, 1832 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2
