Lydia was born in June 1923 in Burnley.1  Lydia's father was Ernest Pearson and her mother was Lydia (Lillie) Timmis Brereton.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Lydia Timmis. She had two brothers named Frank and Nick.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-brother named John.

‌Lydia and Jack were married in a religious ceremony in March 1944 in Birkenhead.2  They had three biological daughters named Anita, Julie and Nicky.  They also had an adopted son named Andrew.  There are no more children.
