Nancy Mather

Nancy was born in 1803 in Turton.¹

  There is only the one Bolton-le-Moors marriage for a Samuel Kay to a Nancy, and that is Nancy Mather.
  
  There are two births:
  Nancy Mather (d of Jas Mather & Sally, c. 31-May-1799) who died and
  Nanny Mather (d of James Mather & Happy, c 13-May-1799).
  Neither of these fit. However, we know the baptisms for this family are missing, so a birth for Nancy, daughter of Solomon Mather is quite possible. All the family were at Toppings and Nancy is a neighbour of her supposed nephew Joseph Mather in 1861.

Nancy's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Alice Fielding. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth. She had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Solomon, John, Joseph, Ann, Esther and Alice. She was the youngest of the eight known children. She died at the age of 79 in November 1882 in Turton. Her burial was on November 16th, 1882 at St. Anne (Turton).

General Notes
- Samuel from Entwistle and Nancy Mather from the Turton Mather family of Toppings. Most likely the daiughter of Solomon and Martha (or possibly Isaac & Nancy). In 1881 Nancy's son George had niece Ann Mather (16) living with him. This suggests Nancy is the daughter of Isaac.
  
  Nancy Mather had an illegitimate daughter Eliza born 1819. It may be this Nancy (tbc).
  
  In 1841, Samuel and Nancy (both 35) were at Chapel Town, Turton with John (10), Elizabeth (5) and George (3). Chapeltown is 1 mile SW of Edgwoth and 1.5 miles NE of Topppings, Turton.
  
  In 1851, Samuel and Nancy (47 & 48) were at Chapel Town, Turton with John (20), Elizabeth (16), George (12), and Ann (9)
  
  Nancy & Samuel Kay moved to Tottington (close) and had Kitty, Elizabeth and Alice.
  
  In 1871, Samuel and Nancy (69 & 68) were at Toppings, Turton with daughter Ann (29). Her son John Kay was a neighbour.
  
  In 1881, Nancy Kay (78) was living with her spinster daughter Ann (39) at 161 Toppings Road, Turton.
  
  Nancy died Nov 1882, aged 79
