Alice Mather

Alice was born in 1801 in Turton.¹

Birth Notes
- Aged 60 in 1861, Born Turton
  
  Walmsley Chapel (Presbyterian) baptism records are missing 3-Oct-1794 to Oct-1815. However, we know Alice was 40 on the 1841 census, and had her father Isaac with her, aged 80.
  
  Alice Settle was a widow in 1861, and census confirms she was from Turton. She also had Rachel Mather, boarder (sister-in-law) with her.

Alice's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Alice Fielding. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth. She had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Solomon, John, Joseph, Ann, Esther and Nancy. She was the seventh oldest of the eight known children. She died at the age of 62 in 1863 in Edgworth.²

- 1841, Abraham (45, Bleacher) and Alice Settle (40) were at Know Mills, Edgworth with William (15), John (12) and Alice (5), and Alice's father Isaac Mather (80).
  
  1861, Alice Settle (60) was at Edgworth with Rachel Mather (73), both Washerwomen. Ann also had her daughter Elizabeth (18) with her.

  - Relationship Notes
    - Joseph Mather (farmer) and Elizabeth were at Higher Know Mill, with Abraham and Alice Settle (nee Mather) with their father Isaac (aged 80) at Know Mill, Edgworth in 1841. With the absence of baptism records for this period, Its is therefore assumed Alice and Joseph are siblings.
  Alice lived with Rachel Hamer.
