George Kay

George was born in May 1838 in Edgworth and his baptism took place on July 1st, 1838 at St. Anne (Turton).¹²

  George, son of Samuel (a Whitster) and Nancy Kay of Turton

George's father was Samuel Kay and his mother was Nancy Mather. His maternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Alice Fielding. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Samuel, Samuel, Kitty, Elizabeth, Alice and Ann. He was the fifth oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 59 on July 12th, 1897 in Harwood.³

  George KAY of 32 King Street, Harwood, Lancashire bleacher's finisher died 27 April 1897. Probate Manchester 12 July to James Kay colour mixer at a print works and Alexander Heap, Beer Seller and maker up at Bleach Works. Effects £1850 11s 5d.

  After they married, George and Ann had their first three (or four including another infant) children's births registered at Royton, Oldham (near Middleton).

  About 1874 the family moved to Staletbridge, Cheshire where the next 6 children's births were registered.
  
  In 1881 George and Ann (42 & 35) were at Stsyley, Tintwistle with James (13), John (10), Mary E (7), Patients (6), Andrew (5), Samuel (9 mo) and niece Ann Mather (16) from Turton.
  
  About 1884 they may have moved again to Dukinfield (nearby) where Elize Ann and Annie's births were registered.
  
  In 1891, George and Ann (52 & 46) were at Harwood with James (22), John (20), Mary E (17), Patience (16), Andrew (15), Samuel (10), George (8) and Annie (5).
