John Kay

John was born in January 1831 in Entwistle and his baptism took place on January 2nd, 1831.¹²

John's father was Samuel Kay and his mother was Nancy Mather. His maternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Alice Fielding. He had three brothers and four sisters, named George, Samuel, Samuel, Kitty, Elizabeth, Alice and Ann. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 54 in March 1885 in Sharples. His burial was on March 26th, 1885 at St. Paul's (Astley Bridge).³⁴
