Ann was born on September 16th, 1811 in Harwood and her baptism took place on November 20th, 1811 at Cockey Moor Discenting Chapel conducted by Joseph Bealey.1 2  Ann's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Hannah Knowles.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth; her maternal grandparents were John Knowles and Jane Thomason. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named Nathan, William, Robert, Richard, John, Henry, James, Peter, Rachel and Catherine. She had an adopted brother named Thomas.  She died whilst giving birth at the age of 40 on August 20th, 1852 in Little Bolton.  She was buried on August 24th, 1852 at Christ Church, Walmsley.3 4

‌Ann and James were married in a religious ceremony on March 16th, 1834 at St. Peter's (Bolton).5   They had three sons and four daughters, named Luke, Luke, William, Esther, Betty, Margaret and Mary.  There are no more children.
