Ethel was born in February 1931 in Birkenhead.1  Ethel's father was Frank Eddowes Brereton and her mother was Ethel Whyte.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Lydia Timmis. She had a brother named Stuart.  She was the older of the two children.



Ethel's family with Thomas (Tom) Henry Mortimer

‌Ethel and Tom were married in a civil ceremony in June 1955 in Birkenhead.1  They had an adopted son and an adopted daughter, named Michael and Hazel.  There are no more children.
