Philippa was born on June 24th, 1311 in Le Quesnoy, Nord, France.  Philippa's father was William ("the Good") de Avesnes III or V and her mother was Jeanne de Valois.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Jean de Avesnes II of Hainault and Philipine of Luxembourg; her maternal grandparents were Prince Charles de Valois III of France and Princess Margaret of Anjou. She had a sister named Catherine.  She was the older of the two children.  She died  due to illness akin to dropsy at the age of 48 on August 15th, 1359 in Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England.  She was buried in Westminster Abbey, Westminster, Middlesex, England.


Philippa's family with King Edward Plantagenet III of England

‌Philippa and Edward were married in a religious ceremony on January 24th, 1328 in York Minster, York, Yorkshire, England.  They had four sons named Lionel, John, Edmund and Thomas de Woodstock.
