Maria was born about 1178 in Montpellier, Herault, France.  Maria's father was Guillaume VIII of Montpellier and her mother was Princess Eudoxia Comnenus of Byzantium.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Guillaume de Montpellier VII and Mathilde de Bourgogne; her maternal grandparents were Emperor Manolis Komnenos I of the Byzantine Empire and Princess Marie de Poitiers of Antioch.  She was an only child.  She died on January 21st, 1213 in Roma, Roma, Italy.


Maria's family with King Pedro ("the Catholic") II of Aragon

‌Maria and "the Catholic" were married in a religious ceremony on June 15th, 1204 in Montpellier, Herault, France.  They had a son named "the Conqueror".
