Adela was born in Normandy.  Adela's father was King William ("the Conqueror") I of England and her mother was Matilda of Flanders.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Robert ("the Devil", "the Magnificent") II of Normandy and Herleva de Falaise; her maternal grandparents were Baldwin ("the Pious") de Flanders V and Princess Adelaide Capet. She had a brother and two sisters, named "Beauclerc", "Fine Scholar", Gundred and Magdalene. She had two half-brothers named William and William.  She died in Marsilly, Aquitaine.  She was buried in Caen, Normandie.

‌Adela and "le Sage" were married in a religious ceremony in Breteuil, Eure, France.  They had four sons and a daughter, named Theobold, Thibault, William, Stephen and Emma.
