In 1843, Elizabeth was living on the Halliwell Road, Halliwell at time of marriage to John.  Correct marriage to John confirmed as "formerly Elizabeth Kay" on daughter Hannah's Birth Certificate of Hannah in 1844.

In 1871, Elizabeth was living at 114 Chorley St, next door to her brother-in-law Samuel Mather at 116.  She is listed as a Newspaper and Periodical Dealer in Worral's Bolton Directory.

1792 - 1872 Ruth Taylor 80 80 1792 - 1839 Ralph Kay 47 47 Ralph is father-in-law of my 2x great-grandfather (not a DNA line).

Father of Elizabeth Kay recorded on Elizabeth's wedding certificate of 1843, but not a witness.   Was not a witness or prersent on 1841 census, so probably died before 1841.
1824 - 1890 Samuel Kay 66 66 Living in Halliwell, Deane, Lancashire in 1841

Brother of Elizabeth who witnessed the wedding of Elizabeth and John in 1843.
1821 Sarah Kay Living in Halliwell, Deane, Lancashire in 1841

Sarah may have got married in 1842, but there are two Sarah Kay's, so dont know who she got married to.  None of the possible matches can be found for 1851, not do any re-married possibilities match up for Bolton area.  It is also very possible she died by 1851, either married or single.
1833 - 1913 Ruth Kay 80 80 Living in Halliwell, Deane, Lancashire in 1841 and 1851

Ruth's parents were possibly William and Mary Kay, and she was granddaughter of Ralph and Ruth.
1837 - 1922 Rachel Kay 85 85 Hannah, Mary and Rachel lived together as three spinsters at 143 Hyalliwell Road, Halliwell, Deane, Lancashire from birth to beyond 1891.  They cannot be found on the 1881 census, but Hannah and Rachel reappear on the 1901, still as spinsters.

Rachel, the last of the three spinsters, died Nov 1922, leaving £3,250 to nephews and Reuben Finn  Handford, Baptist Minister (and nieces husband)

In 1881, John, older wife Margaret and her sister Esther Heywood (aged 82) were living at 63 Lyon St, Little Bolton.  Heywood must have been her married name.
1825 - 1848 James Kay 22 22 Living in Halliwell, Deane, Lancashire in 1841.

By 1851, James had left his parents, so assumed married.  There are 9+ marriages of James Kay between 1841 and 1851, so it is difficult to determine the correct marriage.  Unlike his siblings, he did not marry at Deane, and there is no marriage for a son of Ralph.  Actually, he died!

1831 - 1903 Hannah Kay 72 72 Hannah, Mary and Rachel lived together as three spinsters at 143 Halliwell Road, Halliwell, Deane, Lancashire from birth to beyond 1891.  They cannot be found on the 1881 census, but Hannah and Rachel reappear on the 1901, still as spinsters.

William's grandson was CYRIL BUTLER HOLMES, b.1915, son of Ada Elizabeth, and was a sporting hero from Bolton. He represented his country both in sprinting and rugby union.  In 1936 he attended the Berlin Olympics but tore a muscle before the finals.

In 1861, William Kay (aged 12) was an apprentice to a timber merchant and living with his father and mother Elizabeth at 252 Halliwell Road.

In 1871, aged 22 he was an office clerk, probably in the timber industry.

In 1881 William was married to Gillis and living at 64 Church Street.  He was a timber merchant employing 12 men. This fits in with the probable founding of Kays William (Bolton) Limited in 1874.  The family moved to 5 Chorley New Road and William was described as a timber merchant in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses.
1850 - ~1852 Samuel Kay 2 2 ~1810 - 1892 Margaret Cryer 82 82 According to marriage records, Margaret's maiden name is either Cryer or Ditchfield.  There are no matching Christening records.  However, there was a Margaret Cryer in Little Bolton in 1841 that fits. 1799 Esther Heywood Esther was a Provision Dealer.  She is John Kay's sister-in-law (so Margaret's sister). 1823 Betty Bromiley Marriage recorded as Bromilow, but had brother John Bromiley (aged 64) with her in 1891.
