John Kay

John was born in 1828 in Halliwell and his christening took place on May 4th, 1828 at St. Mary (Deane).¹²

John's father was Ralph Kay and his mother was Ruth Taylor. His paternal grandparents were James Kay and Betty Holt. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, James, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah and Rachel. He had two adopted sisters named Mary and Ruth. He died at the age of 71 in June 1899 in Bolton.³

  John Kay was a witness at Joseph Mather's wedding to Ellen Tomlinson of 1864. John was Joseph's uncle.
  
  In 1881, John, older wife Margaret and her sister Esther Heywood (aged 82) were living at 63 Lyon St, Little Bolton. Heywood must have been her married name.
