John was born about 1798 in Harwood.  John's father was James Kay and his mother was Betty Holt. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Ralph, Thomas, James, Anne, Sarah and Betty.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died in January 1798 in Harwood.  His burial was on January 7th, 1798 at St. Anne (Turton).1
