The 1911 census shows Henry and Mary married for 36 years. ~1855 Mary Ann Dooley Mary may have been born in Barnsley, Yorkshire (see 1901 census), but earlier records suggest Droylsden.  Mary Ann's birth registered in Stockport is a good match, but she seems to have changed age as time progressed.

If she had Walter before she married Henry, she may have been married twice, but is recorded as a spinster on the marriage certificate.

The 1911 census shows Henry and Mary married for 36 years. 1882 Frank Doxey 1884 Hannah Doxey 1886 Joseph Doxey 1880 Sarah Elizabeth Doxey Sarah was "Paralysed from Childhood" according to 1901 census.

A Sarah Doxey did get married around Manchrster 1899, but not this one, who was still single in 1901. 1897 - 1915 Florence May Doxey 18 18 ~1890 Clara Doxey Clara married either Joseph FRANCE or Dennis Hancock NEWTON (Prestwich  8d 554) in 1909 1876 - 1944 Walter Dooley (Doxey) 68 68 Was Walter born out of Wedlock?  After arriving in Australia, he went by the name of Walter Dooley.  Possibly of another mother or father, but unknown.

Walter did not record his fathers name on the marriage certificate, so realy he is unknown.

In 1901, he was the only one of the family to have left the family home.  According to the 1901 census he was 24 when living with the family and his mother in law Emma Breeze in Newton Heath.

Cant find another marriage for Henry in Cheshire/ Lancashire area, but could have been a son of Henry when he was only about 14.

Its believed Walter came to Australia in 1910 with his family on the "Afric".  Before arriving in Australia he had dropped the "Doxey" from his surname and changed his name to Walter Dooley according to the census in 1901.  If this is the right man, then he was a mason and a protestant, as well as being short, bald and very round !
