Robert's father was William John Dod-Hopley and his mother was Hannah Hopley. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Randle, Robert, Rebecca, Anne and Christian. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 5 in February 1787 in Farndon. His burial was on February 7th, 1787 in Malpas.¹¹
