31 Dec 1851, Sarah Brereton (22), daughter of Richard Brereton a shoemaker, married Richard Jones (25), a labourer, at Malpas.

In 1891, Sarah Brereton (or BRERETION) was living with her son Thomas.

When Richard (father) died in 1883 he left the farm to Martha, and for her to look after his wife Sarah.

Martha (28) was with her parents in 1871, togetheer with two grandchildren.  Were thy hers, as she is unmarried?

According to the will, Martha died a spinster in 1921.  She appears to have left most of her belongings to her niece, Martha Hewill (not in this tree).  Also, Martha (a spinster) was executor for her fathers will.

Martha was buried in her parent's grave (which was probably at Harthill).
1827 - 1903 Ester Brereton 75 75 Ester (no "h"), aged 12 in 1841, and same spelling for niece.

Missing, presumed married by 1851.

The ancestry trees suggesting Esther marrtied Thomas Tiffin Burnett make no sence.  He married Jessie Worsley Cooper in Liverpool,
1801 - 1883 Richard Brereton 81 81 Richard, a shoemaker, married Ellen Lea in Liverpool in 1826.  In 1841 he is at Harthill, 38 (indexed as 30) and still a "shoem", or shoemaker or cordwainder to 1861.

In 1851 he 49, a cordwainer

Richard married twice.  The census records show him on the same 9 acre farm in 1871 and 1881, first with Ellen and then Sarah.

Richard died 18 Feb 1883 and left a will, which is available ton-line.  See copy attached.  He left the farm to Martha.  He had 6 surviving children at the time he wrote his will.

Abode: Threapwood No more children Marriage (a child) 1899 (Utah) Other: Buried on the same day 1830 Thomas Tiffin Burnett Thomas T Burnett married Jessie Worsley Cooper in Liverpool, 1889, so is this really the same parson who married Ester Brereton? 1803 - 1886 Sarah Lea 83 83 Sarah Brereton as head of the family died in 1886.  She did leave a Will, which is available on-line.  She left her estate to William Whilhingham Junior of Harthill, so possibly he is a son from a previous marriage. 1835 - 1894 Richard Brereton 59 59 Dont confuse with the other Richard Brereton, son of George and Sarah born the same year at Tilston.  This Richard emigrated to Utah, USA in about 1860. 1839 - 1842 Martha Brereton 2 2 In 1841, John (3) and Martha (1) were living with their parents Richard and Ellen at Harthill.  The following years there was a  problem!  They both died March 1842 and were buried together, the same day.

Another "replacement" Martha was born the same year.
1830 - 1903 Elizabeth Carr 73 73 1837 - 1842 John Brereton 4 4 In 1841, John (3) and Martha (1) were living with their parents Richard and Ellen at Harthill.  The following years there was a  problem!  They both died March 1842 and were buried together, the same day. 1832 - 1891 Anne Brereton 59 59 Ann Brereton (a twin) married Thomas Brereton, her second cousin.  There common great grandparents are William Brereton and Mary Ledsham.

After Ann and Thomjas were married (Oct 1857) they emigrated to Australia. Ann departed 17 Feb 1858 to Melbourne, aged 25 to live in Victoria. She died in Victoria.

In 1881, Martha was a general servant for William Leather (widower), a chemist and his two sons.  Did she marry him?  Martha Brereton left her effects to Martha Hewett
