Sarah was born in 1877 in Blackburn.¹ Sarah's father was Edward Brown and her mother was Margaret Brereton. Her maternal grandparents were Abraham Brereton and Ann Orrett. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Abraham, Adam, Edward, Mary, Agnes and Margaret. She was the third youngest of the seven children.
