Robert was born in 1823 at DickStiles and his christening took place on June 24th, 1823 at St. Bartholomew's (Colne).1 2  Robert's father was Thomas Pickles and his mother was Mary Roberts.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Walsh; his maternal grandparents were James Roberts and Lucy Coulthurst. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, John, William, Edward, Dinley, Margaret, Mary, Sarah, Sarah, Alice and Caroline.  He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 74 on August 23rd, 1897 in Bingley.  He was buried in Bingley.3 3

‌Robert and Hannah were married in a religious ceremony on November 12th, 1848 at All Saints, Ottley by Curate H. Owen and witnessed by Henry Smith and William Dasshire(?).8  They were also married in a commitment ceremony on October 22nd, 1848 at All Saints, Ottley by Curate H. Owen and witnessed by Henry Smith.9  They had two sons and two daughters, named Edward, John, Mary and Ann.  There are no more children.
