William was born in December 1820 at DickStiles and his christening took place on December 24th, 1820 at St. Bartholomew's (Colne) conducted by Curate J Henderson.1 2  William's father was Thomas Pickles and his mother was Mary Roberts.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Walsh; his maternal grandparents were James Roberts and Lucy Coulthurst. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, John, Robert, Edward, Dinley, Margaret, Mary, Sarah, Sarah, Alice and Caroline.  He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 63 in June 1884 in Keighley.3

‌William and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on December 28th, 1852 in Bingley by Vicar J Cheadle and witnessed by John Mitchell & John Mouldery(?).9  They had two sons and a daughter, named John, Tom and Hannah.  There are no more children.
