Edward's father was Thomas Pickles and his mother was Mary Roberts. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Walsh; his maternal grandparents were James Roberts and Lucy Coulthurst. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, John, William, Robert, Dinley, Margaret, Mary, Sarah, Sarah, Alice and Caroline. He was the eighth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 22 in September 1847 in Marlow (aka Marley). His burial was on September 30th, 1847 at All Saints (Bingley).³⁴
