Alexander's father was Albert Pendlebury and his mother was Matilda Fleming.  His paternal grandparents were James Pendlebury and Eliza Mather. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Frank, Albert, Robert, William, Elizabeth and Edna.  He was the third youngest of the seven children. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James, James, Frank, Arthur, Mary, Ellen, Catherine and Lucy.  He died at the age of 63 on January 11th, 1974 in Adlington.  He was buried on January 17th, 1974.²
