Mathilde was born about 0943 in Laon, Champagne.  Mathilde's father was King Louis ("Transmarinus", "d'Outre-Mer") IV of France and her mother was Princess Gerberge Auceps von Sachsen of the Germans.  Her paternal grandparents were King Charles ("the Simple") III of France and Princess Edgifu of Wessex; her maternal grandparents were Emperor Henry ("the Fowler") I and Saint Matilda of Ringelheim. She had a brother named Charles.  She is the older of the two children. She had four half-sisters named Gerberge, Alberada, Alberade and Gerberge.


Mathilde's family with King Conrad ("the Peaceful") III of Burgundy

‌Mathilde and "the Peaceful" were married in a religious ceremony on August 6th, 0966.  They had four daughters named Gerberga, Bertha, Matilde and Gisela.
