Edgifu was born in Wessex, England.  Edgifu's father was King Edward ("the Elder") d'Angleterre I of England and her mother was Aelflaeda de Bernicie.  Her paternal grandparents were King Alfred ("the Great") of Wessex and Queen Ealhswith of the Gaini; her maternal grandparents were Aethelhelm of Wiltshire and Elswitha of Mercia. She had three sisters named Hedwige, Eadgyth and Edhilda. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named "the Elder", "the Magnificent", Thyra and Edith.  She died about 0951.


Edgifu's family with King Charles ("the Simple") III of France

‌Edgifu and "the Simple" were married in a religious ceremony about 0905 in England.  They had two sons and a daughter, named "Transmarinus", "d'Outre-Mer", Charles and Gisela.
