Alfred, known as "the Great", was born on May 12th, 0849 in Wantage, Berkshire, England.  "the Great"'s father was King Ethelwulf of England and his mother was Queen Osburh of Isle of Wight.  His paternal grandfather was King Egbert and his paternal grandmother is Queen Redburh; his maternal grandfather is Oslac the Thane of Isle of Wight. He had a brother named Athelred.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 50 on October 26th, 0899 in Winchester, Hampshire, England.  He was buried in Winchester.


"the Great"'s family with Queen Ealhswith of the Gaini

‌"the Great" and Ealhswith were married in a religious ceremony in 0868.  They had three sons and two daughters, named "the Elder", Athelstan, Edward, Ethelfleda and Ethelswida.
