Edward was born in Kent, England.  Edward's father was King Alfred ("the Great") of Wessex and his mother was Queen Ealhswith of the Gaini.  His paternal grandparents were King Ethelwulf of England and Queen Osburh of Isle of Wight; his maternal grandfather was Ethelred ("Mucil") Eald of the Gaini and his maternal grandmother is Eadburh Fadburn of the Royal House of Mercia. He had two brothers and two sisters, named "the Elder", Athelstan, Ethelfleda and Ethelswida.  He died on July 17th, 0924 in Farndon-on-Dee, Cheshire, England.  He was buried in Winchester Cathedral.

‌Edward and Eadgifu were married in a religious ceremony.  They had a son named Alberic.
