Aveline was born about 1248 in Shere, Surrey, England. Aveline's father was John FitzGeoffrey and her mother was Isabel Bigod. Her paternal grandparents were Earl Geoffrey FitzPiers de Mandeville of Essex and Aveline de Clare; her maternal grandparents were Hugh Bigod of Norfolk and Maud Marshall.
