Alice was born in 1096 in Essex, England.  Alice's father was Earl Gilbert FitzRichard de Clare I of Hertford and her mother was Alice de Claremont.  Her paternal grandparents were Earl Richard FitzGilbert de Clare and Rohese Giffard; her maternal grandparents were Count Hugh de Creil de Clermont and Margaret de Roucy. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Richard FitzGilbert, "Strongbow", Baldwin FitzGilbert, Hervey, Agnes, Margaret, Hawise and Rohesia FitzGilbert. She had a half-brother named John.  She died about 1163 in England.

‌Alice and Aubrey were married in a religious ceremony about 1102 in Suffolk, England.  They had two sons and three daughters, named Alberic, Robert, Rohese, Juliana and Alice.
