Gilbert, known as "Crispin", was born in Normandy, France.  "Crispin"'s father was Count Godfrey of Brienne & Eu and his mother is Heloise de Guisnes.  His paternal grandparents were Duke Richard ("the Fearless", "Sans Peur") I of Normandy and Gunnora Haraldsdottir de Crepon; his maternal grandfather was Count Sigefred ("Le Danois, the Dane") de Guisnes and his maternal grandmother is Elstrude of Flanders. He had a brother and three sisters, named "le Marischal", Denefacta, Adela and Emma. He had three half-brothers named Gilbert, Rollo and Gilbert FitzGodfrey.  He died in 1040.


"Crispin"'s first family with Gunnora d'Aunou

‌"Crispin" and Gunnora were married in a religious ceremony in England.  They had two sons named Baldwin and Gilbert II.


"Crispin"'s second family with Constance de Eu

They had a son named Richard FitzGilbert.
