Baldwin, known as "the Bald", was born about 0863 in Flanders, Nord, France.  "the Bald"'s father was Count Baldwin ("Bras der fer") I of Flanders and his mother was Princess Judith of France.  His paternal grandfather was Comte Odoscer Harlebek of Flanders and his paternal grandmother is de Flandres; his maternal grandparents were Emperor Charles ("the Bald") II and Ermentrude d'Orleans. He had two brothers and a sister, named Rudolph, Raoul and Widnille.  He died on September 10th, 0918.

‌"the Bald" and Ethelswida were married in a religious ceremony in 0888.  They had two sons named Adeluf and "the Great".
