Arnolph, known as "the Great", was born in Flanders, France.  "the Great"'s father was Count Baldwin ("the Bald") II of Flanders and his mother was Princess Ethelswida of England.  His paternal grandparents were Count Baldwin ("Bras der fer") I of Flanders and Princess Judith of France; his maternal grandparents were King Alfred ("the Great") of Wessex and Queen Ealhswith of the Gaini. He had a brother named Adeluf.  He died on March 27th, 0964.


"the Great"'s family with Alix de Vermandois

‌"the Great" and Alix were married in a religious ceremony in Flanders, Belgium.  They had a son and three daughters, named Baldwin, Elstrude, Hildegarde and Ledgarde.
