Archibald's father was William John Douglas and his mother was Agnes Carmichael. His paternal grandparents were Archibald Douglas and Margaret Jane Wray; his maternal grandparents were James Carmichael and Agnes Stevenson. He had two brothers and a sister, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named James, William, Margaret and Douglas. He was the third oldest of the five children. He died as an infant, premature birth, at 1 months old on March 16th, 1905 in Govan.¹
